John Betts is a well known field collector in New England. As a field collector, Mr. Betts was so prolific  in 1989 that he began selling his excess mineral specimens under the name John Betts - Fine Minerals in New York City. He is commonly seen at New England mineral shows. He has served as president, vice-president, speaker coordinator, newsletter editor and led field trips for eight years for the New York Mineralogical Club, the oldest and most prestigious mineral society in the United States.
